A busy day at our drop-in center yesterday – 229 guests, of which 31 were new, and 37 volunteers who helped cook, serve, and clean. Thank you to our volunteers from CSULB, our regulars such as Frank, Gayle, Kyle, Meagan, Katie, Ed, Peter, Kimmel and others, and our new volunteers! Thank you also to Isabel from Safety Net Wireless who provided free cell phones to some of our clients.
Ann and I were busy helping clients with their needs – we provided motel stays, groceries, and transportation passes.
The highlight of this past week, however, was when Celia helped one of our clients Lori move into her apartment. It had been a long, challenging road for Lori, but last week she succeeded in closing the chapter on homelessness. Here is a picture that Celia took of Lori in front of our storage unit with the items that she had selected from the unit and fit into Celia’s car to head over to her new home. They say that “a picture is worth a thousand words.” With that, I will end and encourage you all to look at this photo of Lori and visualize the thousand words that it represents.
Thank you all for your support and allowing us to help people move out of homelessness.
I hope to see you all at our BBQ and showing of David Freeman’s Photography of Homelessness Exhibit this Saturday, 9/29 at 1 pm
