Hello UCO supporters.
We continue to be thankful for our community of supporters – Food Finders, First Congregational Church LB, Unitarian Universalist Church LB, Temple Israel, Temple Baptist Church, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and their members; UCO Board members; and many community members.
Our nurse Anne made aloe vera, isopropyl alcohol hand sanitizers for our guests
; and yesterday’s lunch bags included oatmeal energy cookies
made by new supporter Margaret and banana bread
made by our FCCLB team. We distributed over 130 and 160 to-go lunches, respectively, on the first two Sundays in May.
We have also been busy giving out grocery packs to a growing number of individuals and families during our drop-in center hours, as well as through our partnership food pantry project with DAYS Long Beach. We are grateful for donations of groceries from our community sponsors and uncooked chicken from new donor Supremas, Inc.
We thank Supervisor Janice Hahn and her staff for donating 200 face masks last week that we distributed to staff and guests.
During the week, we conduct our case management via phone calls and emails, including virtual home visits and client assistance for rent, deposits, and other expenses. We have been helping a family settle into their new apartment in Signal Hill. We are working with others and hope to have one of our senior clients move into her unit soon.
This week we are asking for your help in collecting granola/power bars, rice, pasta and bottled water. Donations may be dropped off at our alley door on Saturday, 10 am to 11 am. UCO staff will set up a table in the doorway at the second alley door, and people are asked to drive by between 10 and 11 am and put donations on the table. Staff will remain on the other side of the table and keep a safe distance from donors.
Thank you for your support in allowing us to improve the lives of people who are homeless and others who are in need. Please consider donating to UCO at https://www.ucodic.org/donate/.
