Thank you to all our volunteers who helped us yesterday – including our nursing team headed by Nurse Anne, supporters from Good Shepard Presbyterian in Los Alamitos, and Councilmember Suzie Price and her family. Staff and about 30 volunteers cooked, served and cleaned up – we had 132 guests, of whom 14 were new.
Several guests visited the nursing clinic to discuss their various ailments and remedies. Nursing volunteers also checked blood pressures and distributed clothing and toiletries. Groceries were also provided to many guests.
One of our long-time clients received approval for permanent housing – our staff and she had been looking for months. This client is so relieved that she will be able to move out of her shelter next month.
Using funds from the Long Beach Community Foundation, we provided a motel stay for a week to a woman who has been trying to work. She recently worked at a local fish factory and a warehouse, but has not been able to hold a steady job because of her homelessness. We are working with Long Beach PD and Catholic Charities to secure a shelter bed for the woman. We also provided a motel stay to a man who has been homeless for several years – in coordination with LBPD this elderly man with several health issues is working on accessing services and housing.
We have also been coordinating with the Rescue Mission to access Lydia House for a woman and her two young children. The woman would like to start working again as soon as she gains shelter.
As usual, we provided bus passes to help clients get to/from work and their medical appointments. We also aided a senior woman with her utility bill in an effort to help re-instate her gas service.
Thank you for your support.
