We have been busy during the past two weeks.
On February 7, 2020 one of our senior clients (64 yo) moved into the new senior low-income housing.
He was a new man when he came to the drop-in center on the 9th. He was so enthusiastic about his new apartment and vowed to help others get off the streets. We gave him bus passes and groceries – he was looking forward to cooking his first dinner in his new home.
One of our other clients, a young woman who has been working at a grocery store and living in her car for years was overjoyed to move into her studio unit last week. We are in the process of helping her with furniture and housewares.
On Sunday February 9, 2020 we hosted 127 guests on a gray, rainy afternoon.
We had over 40 volunteers that day – many who were new to us from both Wilson High School and Long Beach State University. This past Sunday we had 163 guests, of whom 45 were new, and were happy to have over 30 volunteers helping us.
Dr. Sophia and her volunteers from CSU Dominguez Hills were on-hand last Sunday to talk to and provide much-appreciated services to our guests.
We continue to provide assistance in the form of bus passes, as well as partial rent and utility bill payments.
Thank you to Natalie and Ruth of Temple Israel for donating gently used clothing, blankets, furniture, microwave and other housewares that we passed on to our guests and housed clients. Thanks also to Betsy of Estate Sisters for donations of another microwave and pots and pans.
We continue to conduct home-visits to help clients adjust to their new homes and ensure that they are saving money to pay their rent and other necessities.
Thank you for your support!
