Another amazing week at Urban Community Outreach! We had so many wonderful donations of hygiene items, clothing and toys! So many willing hands to sort and pack and manage our give-away store! Israel’s team from Molina Healthcare collected mountains of hygiene items, then came and sorted, packaged them and gave them out. Ben brought his Zeta Beta Tau group from CSULB. Anthony brought the Hermanas Group from CSULB too. Laverne donated more toys. Moe brought clothes, and a cash donation from a friend. Gayle brought some new socks and underwear. As a result we had mountains of resources through the community generosity. Our guests were so happy!

We had a visit from a single mom and her son who we have worked with and placed in an apartment. It was a fun reunion with them as I had been texting with them in recent weeks and hadn’t seen them. We talked over good memories of successes and playing with gifted toy airplanes. Course the son was ready for a new toy which we provided to his delight! We easily chose one for his sister too as we know she likes to color and paint.

This afternoon I have an exciting telephone meeting with one of our volunteers who happens to own some condos and apartments. He is considering renting to one of our single mom client guests who has just received her section 8. I pray that goes well. She has come along and done everything on her “to do list”. We have her kids in child care, she has a job and section 8 and now for the ultimate prize….the apartment!!! No more sleeping in a car or motel! Wish me luck today with that conversation!

Tomorrow I go to CSUDH to speak about homelessness at a student homelessness forum and I am taking 2 of our client guests with me to tell of their homeless experiences. I’ll let you know how that goes.

Lots to update you on next week! Don’t forget the Concert this Sat night, Nov 21, at 7pm! Our own FCC choir members and the Los Angeles Metropolitan Youth Orchestra plan to gift us their talents and give a concert to be long remembered!!!

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
