October 25 Update

Greetings from the UCO Staff!

October has been a busy month.

This month we served 558 people received lunches, and. 50 families received grocery help. Furniture was moved into new housing. Utilities were paid. Job referrals and ID forms were given. Rental Assistance was provided to many including seniors and families with children. None of which would be possible without the support of the UCO board and the UCO Community. We thank you for always being there for us. Your support allows us to continue to do this work.

We ended the month by serving Mel’s Cajun chicken sandwiches (pictured below) are a popular treat for all. Alvina’s treat bags were also given out with each meal. Our clients really enjoy having an extra snack for later in the day. Clients were encouraged to vote as many of our clients received their ballots at UCO’s mailing address.

The first Sunday in November, Nurse Anne will be bringing flu vaccines to the UCO clinic. We are excited to offer this to our clients who are so vulnerable.

Backpacks and rolling luggage are always at the top of our clients request list. Thank you to Hank Parker for collecting at his PDM Accounting firm and donating to our UCO clients.

This past Sunday we helped a mother of two with rental assistance. She had been working as a valet driver but was recently laid off due to the impacts of COVID restrictions on the business. The mother wants to work and was happy to receive job referrals along with rental assistance and groceries. We are grateful that we could help her through a tough period. Celia has been busy with other rental assistance for many families. Also, one of our UCO clients moved into her new apartment a week ago. Exciting times! Thank you to our Board Member, Martha for stopping in every weekend at UCO. We enjoy having you with us!

This week we are asking for your help in collecting peach/fruit cups, Mac-n,Cheese, tuna, SPAM or other canned meats (with pop off lids) and bottled water. Donations may be dropped off at our alley door on Saturday, 10 am to 11 am. UCO staff will set up a table in the doorway at the second alley door where donors are asked to put donations on the table. We also need gently used shoes and jackets as requests are increasing for these much-needed items.

As always, thank you for the love and support you give to UCO. We are so thankful for each of you!

Ann Schmidt-Lampe
