Greetings from the Drop-in Center
Thank you for the wonderful donations that helped UCO feed 338 homeless friends and our families in January.
The Drop-in Center was back to business after taking a short break for Christmas. We took the opportunity to sort through the donations we were blessed to receive during the holidays. The donations were a mix of food, blankets, socks, hygiene kits, and much more. Thank you to all of our donors – your generosity helps us continue to provide services to our homeless friends and our families.
A big thank you to Justin Rudd. His donation this month of 500 pairs of warm socks will help keep our friends’ feet warm throughout the chilly nights.
Our Housing Specialist, Celia Guerrero, continues to assist clients with housing searches and Section 8 voucher applications, recertification packages, and housing inspections. Celia receives referrals from the Long Beach Multi-Service Center and Unite Us for clients in need of assistance. She recently received referrals from Villages of Cabrillo to assist seniors, families, and single adults with rental assistance.
We are excited about the New Year. We are looking forward to helping the homeless and our families. They know we are always there on Sunday offering a delicious fresh cooked meal and other services. We hope you are excited about the New Year and we look forward to seeing you soon!
Note from UCO Board Chair Martha Duncan: UCO is looking to fill our Executive Director position. As we move forward with our search, we are always open to suggestions. If you know an energetic, organized, and big-hearted individual to oversee our programs and network with community partners please reach out to me at marthad916@gmail.com. Thank you!
