December 20 Update

Greetings from UCO

We have had a busy December!

Last weekend, Uplift Charities brought their volunteers and 200 blankets and hygiene packages to hand out to our clients. We served 175 people that day. Everyone went away with

full stomachs, snacks for later, blankets for warmth and lots of great hygiene products.

This past Sunday, Mel cooked her holiday ham with macaroni and cheese and a side of greens. Jorge from our advisory board, brought gifts for children which he and his friends handed out. Some of the gifts were delivered as we have several families that have been impacted by COVID this holiday season.

Kevin and Katiana dropped off four carloads of food for our pantry- which stocked our shelves. They came at a perfect time. We continue to see an increase in requests for help with weekly groceries. This week we added a senior woman to our list. Her neighbors stopped by to pick up nonperishables for the elderly woman who is unable to leave her apartment. We are happy to help.

We continue to help our clients with rental assistance. The requests keep coming, especially with the most recent stay at home orders and business closures.

This week we are asking for your help in collecting peach/fruit cups, mac n cheese, soups, tuna, spam or other canned meats (with pop off lids) and bottled water. Donations may be dropped off at our alley door on Saturday, 10 am to 11 am. UCO staff will set up a table in the doorway at the second alley door and donors are asked to put donations on the table. Staff will¬†remain on the other side of the table and keep a safe distance from donors. We also need gently used jackets and sweatshirts as requests are increasing for these much-needed items. If you want to help but can’t make it Saturdays, you can also send a check to UCO at 241 Cedar Ave, Long Beach CA 90802.

Every piece of the universe, even the tiniest little snow crystal, matters somehow.  I have a place in the pattern, and so do you. РTA Barron

As always, Thank You for the love and support you give to UCO. We are so thankful! We wish you the happiest of holidays!
