Art and Homework

UCO had 40 volunteers and some additional community partner visitors on Sunday. We hummed along as our City HeARTS friends, Paige and Yeggie, came and taught art to the children. They made good looking pumpkins! children doing art projectRegional Coordinator, Kristina Rakosh, came from School on Wheels. They are going to bring tutors to help the children with school work. Our UCO, volunteer, Katie Philipson, helped the children do crafts. Another volunteer helped the homeless tune up their bikes. It was a very busy, but full of joy kind of day!

We helped some folks with transportation. One person needed to go back to his doctor and another needed gas to go job searching and also transport her kids to school. I referred a young man to Long Beach Rescue Mission and Chaplain, Jeff, says he will hold a bed for him tonight. I’m happy! The young man is trying hard to get back to work and on an even schedule. When things went wrong he had no money in reserve as he helps his disabled parents.

During the week we had one of our promising females move into Lydia House while she works on her GED and job skills.

The client we worked on together with MHA is in her apartment!

Community partners are wonderful! We placed another child in Children Today and are confident he will be having a sound, loving, educational experience while his mother recovers from a C-section and seeks work.
