Indian Food and Boy Scouts

On Sunday, November 19th, Vedanta volunteers came and prepared Indian food and the delicious fragrance filled Patterson Hall. We had many volunteers help sort clothing and hygiene items and hand them out.Boy scout

A volunteers’ little grandson did a Boy Scout canned goods drive with his troop and brought us the bounty.

We had many requests to talk with counselors. We let everyone know about where they could get Thanksgiving meals during the week and we’ll be serving Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday 11-26.

I don’t know if the pending winter months spurred people to seek help, or why, but several of our client guests have sought our help and are making progress. Some have been homeless for years.

A young couple are working on their drug additions and mental challenges and I referred them to get an assessment by our ENRICH staff and hopefully get into our 90 day bridge program with counseling and mental health care. We gave them a bus pass to see their counselor and go to Safe Refuge to begin the process. I wrote referral letters for them for the program.

Making Hygiene bagsOne of our large homeless families with behavioral challenges has made progress. Two of them now have jobs and we are moving closer to getting into an apartment. We gave them a motel voucher and celebrated their progress. I also referred their 4 and 5 year old children for pre-school. They are finally open to that too.

Another client is making progress with GED and job training and now has deposit and rental support to get an apartment! So happy for her!

We still need a 28 inch apartment size stove as one of our women has received her section 8 and has moved into her apartment.

Have a happy Thanksgiving!     Arlene
